Buy. Ci sono due modi per leggere e trasporre il capolavoro di De Laclois: quello libertino, gioioso, innocente e anarchico di Milos Forman (Valmont) e questo di stephen Frears, ottimo regista, non magnifico come Forman, e solitamente a tinte meno fosche e più moralisteggianti come in questo caso.

Sicuramente la mano della produzione hollywoodiana avra voluto spingere su questa lettura, dove i due burattinai che intrecciano le storie d'amore proprie e delle proprie vittime, sono in fondo il simbolo della decadenza della nobilta. Frears has chosen fantastic music to accompany the style and enhance this aspect of the film. John Malkovich is a great actor no doubt but him and Michelle Pfeffir had ZERO chemistry on screen and their romance made no sense either.

Bellissima Uma Thurman che interpreta Cecile de Volanges, una giovane ingenua che passa dall'isolamento di un monastero al letto di Valmont, quasi senza rendersene conto, vittima inconsapevole di un'infame macchinazione della Marchesa per vendicarsi di un suo ex amante che intende sposare la ragazza. Gli interpreti sono eccezionali, da una Glenn Close perfida e fatale a un John Malkovic vitalissimo, che soccombe travolto dal conflitto tra la vanità e il sentimento.
