Mississippi Burning Gene Hackman Willem Dafoe Frances McDormand (1989) Two FBI agents face racism while investigating the disappearance of three civil rights activists in 1964 Mississippi. One of the best films ever made.
What a fantastic film, Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe at their best, goes into the problem that occurred in the deep south involving the Klu Klux Klan. The summer of 1964... Two FBI agents--one a tight-jawed, by-the-book type, the other an experienced Southern lawman who knows how to handle people--head the government's investigation into the disappearance of three civil rights activists in East Mississippi. One of my favourite movies of all time. The contrast between Hackman's veteran policeman and DaFoe's fresh-faced and naive youngster allows for some truly exceptional dialogue which helps to illustrate and make sense of some of the most bitter of social conflicts. Its no small job to take down a Sherrifs department then or now, but the FBI when conducting a investigation can and will succeed if there is wrong doing! The turning point is when Hackman stages the kidnap of the local KKK leader and is confronted by a tall Negro who is looking for revenge following the castration of a young black man from years ago. Defoe plays the prissy politically correct FBI man investigating racial murders in Mississippi. Although Mississippi Burning is now 31 years old it promotes a strong message that it is morally wrong to kill, use violence and intimation against people just because they are black or from other non white ethnic communities. I really enjoyed this movie. N/A. Mississippi Burning 4K Scan from Original Film Elements

A great thriller set during the 60s in Deep South USA, where racism was rife, and the KKK were trying to run things in a racist way. Skip to content. (My black buddies agree). It also saddened me too, for the way people can treat other people just because of the color of their skin, and what they had to endure in those days, which even though, in the USA everyone has equal rights, racism and white supremacy still endures today. Gene Hackman at his best. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. Hackman plays his worldly junior partner - he's from the South himself, imperfect, tough but with a big heart.
Spannendes Action/Thriller Drama mit herausragenden Schauspielern The atmosphere and terrible injustices are very well portrayed and it's based on a true story.
I feel it would be difficult to make a film like this in today's Politically Correct world, apart from the film Selma that came out 6 years ago, about Martin Luther King, doing his civil rights march that involved some violence, until the white populace joined them and the march went ahead without the Police violence. Eventually Dafoe has to compromise his principles and allow Hackman to use less than legal methods to flush out the local KKK members including the local sheriff to bring the baddies to justice.
