At this location, the Navajos built a Veterans’ Memorial to honor the many Navajos that served in the U.S. Military – many of whom are recognized in the annals of history for their role as Code Talkers in WWII. Take a half day  guided  tour of the inner canyon then ride the south side upper canyon self guided tour to Spider Peak then work your way back to town.

We stayed one night while visiting and touring Canyon De Chelly. Friendly but professional staff at the front desk and gift shop. No external noise during the night. Food isn’t cordon bleu but it’s ok and reasonable value for money. 57 photo. I was really impressed across the board.

Beautifully preserved ruins can be seen from the Betatakin Overlook.

I enjoyed it but it might not be to everyone’s taste.Beautifully appointed lodge inside Canyon de Chelly National MonumentWe met cousins at this hotel, and we were all impressed by the cleanliness of the rooms, parking immediately outside the room, great as it was snowing. Full day hikes are available to both the Betatakin and Kiet Seel sites, located off U.S. 160 at the end of Hwy 564. It is part of the original 1896 Trading post.

The adjacent restaurant was not bad. Located in Chinle, Thunderbird Lodge is in a rural area.

The cafeteria was good, reception is open 24hours and there’s also a gift shop attached. Thunderbird Lodge wurde von unseren Gästen mit „Fantastisch“ bewertet. The towering monolith of Spider Rock is viewed from below – this spot the center of the Navajo universe is steeped in stories and Navajo traditions and the lore of the Spider Woman. When your eyes adjust to the dim light in the “bullpen” you find you’ve just entered a mercantile. Had to give the restaurant a miss.

It’s perfect for winter accommodation. Now $73 (Was $̶8̶0̶) on Tripadvisor: Thunderbird Lodge, Chinle. The room was clean and quiet (concrete walls, no 2nd floor rooms). The lodge offers all first floor rooms with parking next to most rooms. Very nice and very clean rooms. The delegates discuss issues and enact legislation to determine the future on the Navajo people. Stayed there last night. Great quality of fresh ingredients.

The on-sire cafeteria (yes, a cafeteria, with a line and a hot table) had limited offerings for dinner, but we were kind of late arriving and weren't interested in waiting for steaks, so we just went with what looked freshest, which was fine; highly recommend the blue-corn pancakes for breakfast, but they are huge.
